Give Me a Sign

Coincidence or divine appointment? Just a few days after PrizeFighter 41 was released, I received an article from Dave Burchett, author of When Bad Christians Happen to Good People. The topic? Church signs.

Not only was it a great article, it also pointed to a neat site where you can make your own virtual church sign, just like the one above! (No, the people at Zion Pentecostal really don't know when my birthday is.) Simply click the above photo to make your own!

And be sure to click the link below to read Dave's article.

"You're only young once, but you can be immature forever." - John Greier

"The older I grow the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom." - H.L. Mencken

"Live your life and forget your age." - Norman Vincent Peale

"All my life I used to wonder what I would become when I grew up. Then, about seven years ago, I realized that I was never going to grow up -- that growing is an ever-ongoing process." - M. Scott Peck

That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. - 2 Corinthians 4:16

Between this edition of the Prizefighter and the next I will be celebrating my 40th birthday. While I may look 40 (I will heatedly debate that I don't look a day over 36), I certainly don't feel it. At least, I don't feel the way I always thought a 40-year-old should feel.

Physically I'm in better shape than ever and feel about the same as I did in my early 20's. I've been blessed with health and work hard to maintain it. Mentally, however, I sometimes share Margaret Atwood's view that "everyone else my age is an adult, whereas I am merely in disguise."

The older I get, the more I realize that age and wisdom aren't necessarily a package deal. Not all old people are wise, and not all wise people are old. About the only thing I can safely say about age is that by the time we reach our 120th birthday, we'll all be dead.

Yes, if you live long enough, you too will experience physical decline and death.

Physically, I really don't want to live forever. I'm already getting wrinkles. By the time I reach 90 I'll probably need a really good ironing. But I like the idea of living forever spiritually, and the good news (or should I say Good News) is that we have that option.

I have no idea what physical age I'll live to. Still, I want to look back on my years with the knowledge that I learned, grew, and used my God-given gifts to have a positive impact on those in my sphere of influence.

We all can do that. At any age.

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, "The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him." - Psalm 92:12-15
