The Bait of Satan: Living Free from the Deadly Trap of Offense by John Bevere
"If you stay free from offense you will stay in God's will. If you become offended you will be taken captive by the enemy to fulfill his own purpose and will. Take your pick. It is much more beneficial to stay free from offense."

"Whenever I judge another believer, four things instantly happen: I lose fellowship with God, I expose my own pride and insecurity, I set myself up to be judged by God, and I harm the fellowship of the church. A critical spirit is a costly vice." - Rick Warren

"Gossip is passing on information when you are neither part of the problem nor part of the solution." - Rick Warren
In May's PrizeFighter newsletter I talked about how I had made a series of choices that wrecked several friendships. Many readers replied with words of encouragement and expressed how they had been touched by my confession.
Conversations about all these events ran rampant among friends, associates and fellow church members. In social situations I sometimes met with distant stares, whispers, awkward silence and averted eyes. Yet virtually no one approached us to voice their concern or hear the full story.
Now, just four months later, I'm very pleased to report that, by God's grace, all of those broken friendships have now been redeemed and strengthened. The funny - and sad - part is that the news of this minor miracle will not travel nearly as far or as quickly as the negative gossip that went before it.
How amazing that those who had no direct involvement, interest or information have been more judgmental and unforgiving than those who actually went through the ordeal. We got over it, why haven't they?
Ask yourself...
- Do I pass along or listen to gossip?
- Who have I held in judgment as a result of speculation, hearsay, or even the truth?
- As I read this newsletter, am I taking the message to heart, or am I instead thinking of someone else who "needs to hear this"?
