"Sometimes we play church games. 'What if Jesus walked in here now? How would we treat him?' We always assume that we would recognize him."

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

"If you understand, things are just as they are; if you do not understand, things are just as they are."
-- Zen saying
No matter how hard I try, there are still many things in life that I don't understand. I would love to have a better understanding of God's purpose and direction for my life, but how can I think of doing that when I can't even understand my jar of peanut butter?
"What's that?" you may be asking, "How could a peanut butter jar be beyond someone's understanding?"
Well, I'm sure you wouldn't believe it unless you saw it yourself, so I scanned and pasted it below. The image you see here is the actual label from a jar of peanut butter that came from my kitchen cupboard...
Could someone please explain this to me? Do rabbits really eat peanut butter? Of those who do, how many of them have their pilot's license? How did that rabbit get that helmet to fit over its ears? What market were the peanut butter people hoping to attract with this image?
What's my point? Whether I understand it or not, there is a picture of a rabbit in vintage pilot gear on my peanut butter jar. Whether I understand it or not, God has a plan for my life. And if I trust and acknowledge Him, one day it will all make sense.
I can't say the same for the label of my peanut butter jar.
Ask yourself...
- What things are happening in my life today that I don't understand?
- How much easier would my life be if I surrendered the need to understand it all?
