Give it All to Him
by Max Lucado

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

The weight of our sins, our failures, and our worries is too much for one person to carry alone.

Jesus wants them all.

Give it all to Him.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
| Have you ever felt abandoned by God?

Have you ever looked at your life and wondered why such a loving and compassionate God would allow it to become such a mess?

I spent the last few weeks stubbornly seeking my own selfish desires and agenda ahead of God's will and perfect timing. I "played God", convincing myself that I knew what was best for my life and the lives of those I love. In the process I made a series of choices that destroyed several friendships, and almost destroyed my marriage. I hurt more people more deeply in that short amount of time than I had in my entire life. Never before had I caused or experienced so much pain.

In the midst of all that pain I started to ask, where is God in all this? Why didn't He stop me? Why would He allow something like this to happen? Why didn't He give me more direction?

How irresponsible of me! God was there the entire time, gently speaking the Truth. I'm the one who ignored Him and made the mess. He honored my choice and mercifully stood by, ready for me to return to Him at any time and accept His love, compassion and grace. God was never the problem. He was - and is - the solution.

Listen very carefully. God is always speaking the truth in your life. God is always providing in your life. When we place limits, expectations or demands on how, when and where God will work in our lives, we are denying ourselves the greatest gift. Who knows what we truly need better than God, and who loves us more than He does? It may not look, sound or feel like what we expect, but God is always there with exactly what we need.

Ask yourself...
  • When have I felt abandoned by God?
  • Why and how did I push Him away?
  • How many different ways could God work in my life if I allowed Him?

This past week I sought and received forgiveness, but the reconciliation will still be a long and painful process. I pray that each person I hurt receives God's touch in their lives and sees Him work for good even through this trial, for I love each of them dearly. My prayer for you too is that you will hear God's voice and experience His provision in your life, and be truly thankful for what He has done and continues to do.
